These cookies are a favorite in my family. They disappear more quickly than chocolate chip cookies. This recipe is adapted from the one my grandma used to make. She used shortening, but I'm using butter instead. She also used milk instead of cream.
Snickerdoodles
1 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
- Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).
- Cream together the shortening, sugars, eggs, and cream. Add the vanilla.
- In a bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add to the butter mixture, mixing well. The cookie dough will be quite stiff.
- In a small bowl, mix a 1/2 cup sugar and about a teaspoon of cinnamon.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and roll in the cinnamon and sugar. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- Cool on a rack.
Enjoy!!
